Yesterday I had the privilege to gather with a couple hundred people in downtown Raleigh and walk in silence around the capital building in support of A21’s Walk For Freedom. This walk was the 1st annual walk in Raleigh and the 3rd annual walk world-wide. What is the purpose of the Walk For Freedom? It is to raise awareness of the atrocities of human trafficking…modern day slavery. Here are some statistics on human trafficking:
- 27 million people are in bondage worldwide
- Only 1-2% of trafficked victims are ever rescued
- The average age of a trafficking victim is 12 years old
- Every 30 seconds someone becomes a victim of human trafficking
A21 is an organization whose sole purpose is “to abolish injustice in the 21st century.” Click on the link to read more on how this organization helps.
In a nutshell their strategy…
- Prevention
- Protection
- Prosecution
- Partnership
Two dates to be aware of in 2017; Wednesday, January 11 is National Human Trafficking Awareness Day and Saturday, October 14 is A21’s Walk For Freedom. In the month of April, I do a fundraising campaign called “One Dress-One Month”. This past year the funds went to A21 because I believe in the work they do. For 2017 I plan on doing “One Dress-One Month” again and supporting A21, I hope you’ll prayerfully consider coming along side me to raise money and awareness.
Blessings,
Heather B.
